Birr Castle Demesne

The castle dates from around 1208, the castle and the estate were given to Sir Laurence Parsons during the Plantation of 1620. The demesne consists of 50 hectares of gardens set round a large artificial lake. The castle grounds also holds the world famous Birr Observatory and Telescope and a maze.
